​Huge numbers of women don’t wear a sports bra.
What will happen if I don’t wear one?

• The Cooper’s ligament – which is very thin but supports the breast and keeps them in place – will become stretched and damaged creating that dreaded "sag"
• Too much movement thus affecting performance
• Breasts will become painful
• Irreversible tissue damage

Why should I wear a sports bra?

• The average breast size in the UK is a 34D which is 500g per breast, meaning the average woman is carrying 1KG of extra weight.
• You need to work harder without one!
• Breathing is affected because you’ll over-exert to compensate for the added movement of your breasts.
• Your running gate!  Portsmouth University have researched and discovered that on average 4cm is  lost in your stride length due to body rotation.
• It’s one of the biggest barriers to exercise in women!

What sports bra is right for me?

• You should look for a cup-sized sports bra rather than uniboob (XS-XL). Even if you consider yourself to have small breasts, they all need to be supported
• Get fitted!  If you have been for everyday bras, it’s a good guide to the size you’ll need for a sports bra however, due to the nature of a sports bra, the fit will be firm, so some like to go up a little in the band or cup to make it comfortable to exercise in – because it's always nice to be able to breathe!
• Choose either wired or non-wired, whichever you feel the most comfortable in. As long as it fits!

How long should a sports bra last?

• Liken your bras to a pair of shoes… when it becomes uncomfortable, it’s time for an upgrade.
• How you wash your bra and how often you exercise will also play a key factor in this. Hand washing and drying naturally will lengthen the life time of any bra as opposed to one that is washed and dried in a machine. Also, if you exercise regularly but only own 1 sports bra, this will obviously need to be changed a lot sooner than someone who rarely exercises or has many more bras to rotate.
